EU countries will suspend their sanctions against Syria on Monday, diplomats said on Friday in Brussels.
Diplomats confirmed that the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of 27 States, who will meet on Monday in the Belgian capital, will take a formal decision on the matter after a preliminary agreement reached at their previous meeting in Janfi. These sanctions cover the banking, energy and transport sectors.
The EU is seeking assistance in rebuilding Syria after years of conflict and ousting President Bashar al-Assad last December.
These restrictions were imposed on the Assad Government and entire sectors of Syria’s economy during the 2011 conflict.
