Judith Someno Toluka, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, reported that nearly 7000 people have died since the beginning of the year due to the ongoing conflict in the east.
This was stated during a high-level meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, where she noted that around 450,000 people have been left homeless following the destruction of 90 displacement camps.
The advance of the M23 movement represents the most serious escalation the region has seen in over a decade. Meanwhile, Rwanda denies allegations from Congo, the UN, and Western nations of supporting the movement with weapons and troops.
