The Financial Times reported that Germany is leading efforts within the European Union to ease sanctions imposed on Syria, as part of supporting the political transition and reconstruction after 13 years of civil war.

The German proposals include easing sanctions in sectors such as finance, energy, and air transport, in exchange for Syria’s commitment to implement reforms related to the protection of minorities and women’s rights.

However, there remains hesitation among EU countries regarding this approach, as some capitals prefer to assess the steps taken by the Syrian administration before making any final decisions.
