Iran Releases Italian Journalist Cecilia Sala After Arrest

Tehran has released Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, as announced by the office of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The statement confirmed that the release was made possible through intensive diplomatic and intelligence efforts, following tensions between the two countries over the case.

Sala was arrested by Iranian authorities on December 19, 2024, while she was working in Tehran.

Her arrest coincided with the detention of Iranian businessman Mohammad Abedini at Malpensa Airport in Milan at the request of the United States, where he was accused of supplying parts for drones used in an attack that resulted in the deaths of three American soldiers in Jordan.
