The United States carried out an airstrike in southern Somalia on December 31, resulting in the death of ten members of Al-Shabaab, at the request of the Somali government, with no civilian casualties reported.
This strike comes after government forces repelled an attack by ISIS in the northern part of the country.
Later, reports indicated that security forces in Puntland thwarted a suicide attack on a military base, killing nine attackers and injuring several soldiers.
