Democratic Republic of Congo: Suspension of Kabila’s Party and Accusations of High Treason

The Democratic Republic of Congo has announced the suspension of the party of former President Joseph Kabila and ordered the confiscation of its assets, accusing it of high treason due to alleged links with the March 23 Movement, a rebel group supported by Rwanda.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the country’s Ministry of Interior stated that Kabila’s party, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), was suspended due to its “ambiguous stance” regarding the occupation of Congolese territory by the March 23 Movement.
