The coasts of Asir region in Saudi Arabia achieved a significant boost in fish production in 2024, increasing to over 4,000 tons annually, which contributed to economic returns estimated at 155 million riyals ($41.3 million), supported by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture.
Engineer Ahmed Al-Mujthel, Director of the Ministry’s Asir branch, confirmed that Asir’s coasts have become one of the region’s key advantages due to their high-quality fishery resources, noting plans to increase production to 6,000 tons over the next three years.
Al-Mujthel also mentioned that the ministry is supporting Saudi fishermen by delivering 35 new boats, while simultaneously launching the “Fish and Maritime Heritage Festival” at the “Al-Qahma Historical Port,” which featured the participation of local families and cultural and educational programs.
