Israel’s Fire and Rescue Authority announced on Thursday that it has not yet managed to fully contain the wildfires raging through the Jerusalem Hills, though most roads that were closed on Wednesday have now been reopened.
According to Yedioth Ahronoth, the fires have destroyed approximately 19,600 dunams of land, with preliminary estimates suggesting that reconstruction costs could reach millions of dollars.
In a related development, Israel Hayom reported that the Israeli Fire and Rescue Commissioner suffered burns after flames ignited his clothing during an evacuation operation near occupied Jerusalem.
Firefighting teams continue to face significant challenges due to rugged terrain and limited access to some of the affected areas, as dry winds and high temperatures complicate efforts to bring the fires under control.
