Iraq Proposes Arab Recovery and Reconstruction Fund, Pledges $40 Million for Gaza and Lebanon

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani announced on Saturday a national initiative to establish a joint Arab fund to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in countries affected by crises, conflicts, and wars.

Speaking during the 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad, Al-Sudani stated, “Iraq is launching 18 ambitious initiatives to enhance joint Arab cooperation, foremost among them the proposal to establish the Arab Recovery and Reconstruction Fund.”

As part of Iraq’s contribution to the initiative, the prime minister announced a financial commitment of $40 million—$20 million allocated for reconstruction in Gaza and another $20 million dedicated to Lebanon.

The proposal comes at a time of intensifying humanitarian crises and regional instability, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated Arab efforts to support post-conflict recovery, development, and long-term stability across the region.
