UK and EU Announce New Relations After Five Years of Brexit

The UK and the European Union held their first official summit since Brexit, discussing ways to enhance cooperation amid the war in Ukraine and reassess international alliances.

On Monday, the UK reached a new understanding to regulate defense and trade relations with the EU since leaving the bloc. Both sides also agreed to facilitate access for British food and tourists to the EU and signed a new fishing agreement.

Trump’s tariffs, along with warnings for Europe to make greater efforts to protect itself, have forced governments worldwide to rethink their trade and defense relationships, bringing Starmer closer to French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders.
