Turkey to Export 2 Billion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas to Syria, Triple Electricity Supply

Turkey announced on Thursday its plan to export 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Syria and significantly increase its electricity exports, signaling a notable shift in bilateral relations after years of estrangement.

The announcement came during a joint press conference held in Damascus between Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and his Syrian counterpart, Mohammad Al-Bashir.

Bayraktar stated that Turkey will “soon begin exporting 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Syria,” though no specific start date was provided.

He also expressed Ankara’s intention to triple its electricity exports to Syria, aiming to reach 1,000 megawatts in the coming months.

The move comes as Syria seeks to rebuild its energy infrastructure amid chronic fuel shortages and frequent power outages, exacerbated by a prolonged economic and humanitarian crisis.
