Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris pledged on Saturday to launch a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Khartoum during his first visit to the capital since taking office in May, following more than two years of devastating war.
During a field tour that included the city’s destroyed airport, damaged bridges, and water stations, Idris unveiled plans to rebuild essential infrastructure in anticipation of the return of some of the millions who fled the capital due to violence, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
“Reconstruction is a national priority,” Idris said, emphasizing the need to restore basic services and state institutions to facilitate the capital’s gradual recovery.
