At least nine people were killed, including three of the attackers, and 22 others injured—some critically—after an armed assault targeted a courthouse on Liberty Street in Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, on Saturday.
The Baluchi opposition group Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), which is designated a terrorist organization by Iranian authorities, claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said the operation, named “Hand of Justice,” was carried out in retaliation for what it described as systemic oppression of the Baluchi people.
In its statement, Jaish al-Adl accused Iran’s judiciary of issuing death sentences against Baluch individuals and ordering the demolition of their homes. The group also threatened judges and judicial staff, warning that “death will follow them like terrifying shadows.”
