Wildfires broke out on Saturday evening in the Orhaneli and Gürsu districts of Turkey’s northwestern Bursa Province, fueled by powerful southern winds that pushed the flames dangerously close to residential neighborhoods, according to Turkish media reports.
The fires, which erupted in two separate locations, prompted a major emergency response as firefighting teams battled to contain the blaze under challenging weather conditions. Local authorities reported that the strong winds significantly hindered containment efforts.
As emergency crews continued working to control the spread, a new fire reportedly ignited in the Ağlaşan neighborhood of the Daşkaya area in Gürsu, raising further concerns for public safety and prompting the possibility of evacuations.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties, but the situation remains volatile as officials monitor the fires and coordinate with emergency services to protect residents and infrastructure.
