White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt announced on Wednesday that former U.S. President Donald Trump is open to meeting both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a joint summit, should the opportunity arise.
Leavitt added that “the Russians have expressed interest in meeting with President Trump,” as diplomatic efforts continue to seek a resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
According to The New York Times, Trump informed several European leaders on Wednesday of his intention to hold a face-to-face meeting with President Putin as early as next week. The proposed meeting would be followed by a trilateral summit involving both Putin and Zelensky.
The move comes amid a prolonged stalemate in international peace negotiations and rising global calls for renewed dialogue between Moscow and Kyiv.
