Argentine authorities reported 10 injuries and the arrest of 90 fans following violent clashes during the Copa Sudamericana round of 16 second-leg match between Independiente of Argentina and Universidad de Chile, played Wednesday night at the Libertadores de América Stadium in Buenos Aires.
The match was halted early in the second half after fans threw multiple objects, including a stun grenade, leading to its eventual cancellation.
Shocking scenes unfolded in the stands as Independiente supporters attacked visiting fans, with one Universidad de Chile supporter forced to jump from the stands to escape the assaults. Witnesses said some Chilean fans were beaten and stripped of their shirts by home supporters.
Tensions escalated during halftime when Universidad de Chile fans began throwing stones, bottles, sticks, and seats toward a section packed with local supporters, sparking further violence and chaos inside the stadium.
