U.S. Court Rules Trump’s Tariffs Unlawful but Keeps Them in Place Temporarily

Former U.S. President Donald Trump suffered a legal setback on Friday after a federal appeals court ruled that a significant portion of the tariffs he imposed during his term were “unlawful.”

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, in a 7–4 decision, upheld a lower court ruling that found Trump had overstepped his authority by using emergency economic powers to levy tariffs on imports from several countries.

However, the judges allowed the tariffs to remain in effect until mid-October, giving the parties time to appeal the case to the Supreme Court, according to Agence France-Presse.
