Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali Re-Elected for Second Term

Guyana’s electoral commission announced that President Irfaan Ali has secured a second term after his party, the Civic Progressive Party, won 55 percent of the 65 parliamentary seats in the general election held earlier this month.

The victory gives the 45-year-old leader a renewed mandate to manage the country’s newly discovered oil wealth, amid escalating border tensions with Venezuela.
