The UN Security Council voted against a draft resolution to permanently lift sanctions on Iran, leaving an eight-day window for Tehran and European powers to reach a deal to delay reimposing measures.

Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria voted in favor, while nine members opposed and two abstained.
