Two Dead in Morocco Amid Riots Following Protests Demanding Health and Education Reforms

Two people were killed by Moroccan security forces late Wednesday while attempting to storm a gendarmerie barracks in southern Morocco during unprecedented riots that followed protest calls by the youth movement “Generation Z 212,” although most demonstrations remained peaceful.

According to Morocco’s official news agency, a local authority source in the province of Inezgane said that gendarmerie personnel in the town of Qlaiaa “were forced to use service weapons in self-defense to repel an attack and storming attempt on the gendarmerie center, in an effort to seize ammunition and weapons, resulting in two fatalities from gunshot injuries.”

This incident marks the most serious event on the second day of riots following the protest calls organized by “Generation Z,” a youth movement advocating reforms in the health and education sectors, whose organizers remain anonymous.
