Syria is preparing for voting on Sunday, October 5, 2025, to establish its first parliament since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The process is being managed by the Supreme Election Committee, composed of 11 members appointed by the president in June, which in turn has formed subcommittees in the provinces to select members of the electoral bodies after local consultations.
An initial list of approximately 6,000 candidates has been announced, with eligibility limited to members of electoral bodies, effectively excluding former regime supporters and advocates of separatism or foreign-backed influence.
The parliament will consist of 140 seats across 60 electoral districts.

Elections have been postponed in areas under Kurdish administration in northeastern Syria, as well as in the Druze-majority province of Sweida in the south, where tensions remain high following clashes between government forces and local fighters.
