Mali Imposes Visa Bond on U.S. Citizens in Response to Washington’s Measures

Mali’s government announced Sunday that it will require U.S. citizens seeking to enter its territory to pay a financial bond ranging from $5,000 to $10,000, in response to a similar move by Washington.

The Foreign Ministry in Bamako said the measure applies “under the principle of reciprocity,” calling the U.S. decision “a violation of bilateral agreements.”

The U.S. policy affects several African countries, including Mali, and requires travelers to post a temporary security deposit when applying for a visa.
