A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Indonesia’s Papua province on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported, with no tsunami warning issued and no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
According to the USGS, the quake occurred at 2:48 p.m. local time (05:48 GMT) at a depth of 35 kilometers, about 200 kilometers from the provincial capital, Jayapura.
Indonesia, located along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” frequently experiences seismic activity due to the collision of several tectonic plates.
