The World Bank on Tuesday estimated the cost of rebuilding Syria at around $216 billion, following more than 13 years of conflict that devastated the country’s infrastructure and economy.
According to the Bank’s report, the estimate covers the period from 2011 to 2024, noting that reconstruction remains one of the most pressing challenges for the transitional authorities since the ousting of former President Bashar al-Assad about a year ago, AFP reported.
The report projected that the total cost of rebuilding damaged physical assets could range between $140 billion and $345 billion, with a “best conservative estimate” of $216 billion — including $75 billion for residential buildings, $59 billion for non-residential structures, and $82 billion for infrastructure.
