Japanese PM Plans to Cut Cabinet Salaries in Special Parliamentary Session

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiishi plans to review the public sector salary law to reduce the pay of cabinet members, including her own, during the current extraordinary session of the Diet.

The government is set to hold a meeting on Tuesday to discuss suspending additional allowances for the prime minister and ministers, which currently make their salaries higher than those of lawmakers, according to Japanese news agency Jiji Press.

The move appears aimed at demonstrating Takaiishi’s commitment to reform and fulfilling her long-standing pledge to lower cabinet salaries.
