At least eight people were killed and 19 others injured on Monday after a car exploded in the heart of India’s capital, New Delhi, according to AK Malik, Deputy Chief of the city’s Fire Department, speaking to AFP.

Officials at a nearby hospital confirmed that the victims were receiving treatment. The blast occurred near the historic Red Fort in a densely populated area, and the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation, authorities said.
