Thousands Protest Across Mexico Following Murder of Anti-Crime Mayor

Thousands of people across Mexico protested on Saturday under the banner “Generation Z,” expressing outrage over rising violence following the recent killing of an anti-crime mayor earlier this month.

Reuters witnesses reported that a small group of masked demonstrators toppled barricades around the National Palace in Mexico City, the residence of President Claudia Sheinbaum, sparking clashes with riot police who deployed tear gas.

Mexico City’s Public Safety Minister Pablo Vázquez said at a press conference that 100 police officers were injured, including 40 requiring hospital treatment, and 20 civilians were also injured. He added that 20 people were arrested, while 20 others faced administrative charges.
