France’s highest court, the Court of Cassation, upheld on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the conviction of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy for illegal campaign financing.
The 70-year-old former president had appealed a 2024 ruling that found him guilty of illegally funding his unsuccessful 2012 re-election campaign, which had resulted in a one-year prison sentence.
Six months of the sentence have been suspended, allowing Sarkozy to serve the term through alternative measures such as wearing an electronic bracelet instead of serving time in prison.
