Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Friday criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats to intervene if Tehran uses violence against protesters, warning that any attack on Iran would be met with a “swift and comprehensive” response.

In a statement, the ministry described the U.S. threats as “part of Israel’s policies aimed at escalating tensions in the region.”

The statement added that Trump’s recent remarks on Iran “violate international law and incite violence against the Iranian people.”

It further warned that any attack on Iran would “increase the likelihood of deepening chaos and instability in the region,” stressing that “the United States will be responsible for all such consequences.”

The comments come as several Iranian cities witness protests over the sharp decline of the Iranian rial against foreign currencies and worsening economic conditions.
