Tunisia’s Ministry of the Interior announced on Saturday, January 3, 2026, that it had foiled a terrorist operation in the Feryana district of Kasserine governorate, near the Tunisian-Algerian border, as part of a preemptive security operation.

The ministry said security units eliminated a highly dangerous terrorist, identified as Sadiq Al-Abidi, and arrested his accomplice after tracking an extremist group in the vicinity of the weekly market in the area.

The operation resulted in the martyrdom of a security officer who succumbed to severe injuries sustained while confronting one of the terrorists during the intervention.
