Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in on Monday as interim president of Venezuela after being appointed by the Supreme Court following the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.
Rodríguez called for a “balanced” relationship with the United States, despite warnings from the US president of renewed military intervention.
Reports indicated she has secured the backing of the military establishment, while authorities declared a state of emergency and launched arrest campaigns against those suspected of supporting the US attack that led to Maduro’s ouster.
