At least 14 people, including seven children aged between two and 11, were killed in an attack carried out by suspected separatist gunmen in the town of Gidado in northwest Cameroon.

Regional governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique told state radio that the victims included one man, six women and several children, stressing that the attack targeted unarmed civilians.

He added that 14 people were wounded and transferred to hospitals in the towns of Ndu and Nkambe for treatment, noting that authorities have begun implementing new security measures under directives from President Paul Biya to contain the situation and prevent further attacks.
