Venezuela’s Acting President Slams “Washington’s Orders,” Rejects Foreign Interference

Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, said on Sunday that she has grown “fed up with Washington’s orders” in Venezuela, in her latest remarks criticizing U.S. pressure on Caracas.

In a message addressed to oil workers in Anzoátegui state in eastern Venezuela, Rodríguez said: “Enough of Washington giving orders to Venezuelan politicians. Let Venezuelan politics resolve our internal disputes and conflicts.” She added: “Enough foreign powers. This republic has paid a high price to confront the consequences of fascism and extremism in our country.”

Rodríguez has previously stated that she is not afraid of confronting the United States diplomatically. On January 15, she said that if she were ever required, in her role as interim president, to travel to Washington, she would do so “with dignity, walking firmly, not crawling.”
