Pakistan’s security forces said on Sunday they had killed 145 militants in less than two days across the southwestern province of Balochistan, as the country grapples with one of its deadliest waves of violence in the region.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti told reporters that “we managed to kill 145 terrorists in 40 hours,” Bloomberg News reported.

Bugti said the violence also left 31 civilians and 17 members of the security forces dead.

Balochistan has long been plagued by an insurgency, with militant groups carrying out attacks against security forces and government targets.
