Libya’s Menfi Expresses Regret Over Killing of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, Urges Calm

Libya’s Presidential Council head Mohamed al-Menfi said he deeply regretted the killing of presidential candidate Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, urging Libyan factions to refrain from incitement and exercise restraint to protect reconciliation efforts.

In a statement, Menfi said the council had followed “with deep sorrow” the public prosecutor’s announcement regarding the killing, calling on all political forces to wait for the outcome of official investigations.

He said the Presidential Council would closely monitor the investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable, acknowledging public concerns surrounding the incident.

Menfi added that the council welcomed the use of technical support and expertise within the legal framework to enhance transparency and speed in the investigation process, in order to strengthen public confidence.
