European diplomats on Thursday urged Israeli authorities to halt what they described as escalating violations in the Silwan area of occupied East Jerusalem, rejecting what they called an unprecedented rise in forced evictions, demolitions and settler takeovers of Palestinian homes.
The European Union’s office in the Palestinian territories said in a post on social media platform X that the EU representative, envoys from EU member states and other like-minded diplomatic missions had visited the Batn al-Hawa and al-Bustan areas of Silwan.
The statement said the visit came “amid an unprecedented escalation in forced evictions, demolitions and the takeover of Palestinian homes by settlers.”
There was no immediate comment from Israeli authorities on the statement.
