Russia, Ukraine Continue Abu Dhabi Talks as Fighting Persists

Russia and Ukraine continued a second day of talks in Abu Dhabi on Thursday with the participation of the United States, as efforts to find a way out of the nearly four-year-old war unfolded alongside ongoing fighting on the ground.

Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s envoy to the talks with Ukraine, said there had been “progress and positive movement” in the discussions, despite what he described as pressure from the European Union and Britain.

He said what he called “warmongers” in Europe were seeking to obstruct a peaceful settlement to the conflict, adding that they would not succeed.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military released figures detailing losses it said it had inflicted on Russian forces since the start of the war, figures that could not be independently verified.

There was no immediate comment from Ukrainian or U.S. officials on Moscow’s assessment of the talks.
