South Carolina State University said on Thursday that two people were killed and another injured in a shooting at a university housing complex.
In a statement, the university said it had not yet confirmed the identities of the victims or the condition of the injured person, according to the Associated Press.
The university imposed a lockdown on its campus in Orangeburg at around 9:15 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire, with the lockdown lasting about four hours.
Investigators found the victims at the scene while security forces conducted patrols across the campus and surrounding areas.
Classes scheduled for Friday were cancelled, and counselling services were made available to students.
