New York Governor Urges Trump Administration to Refund $13.5 Billion After Tariffs Overturned

New York Governor Kathy Hochul on Tuesday urged the administration of President Donald Trump to refund $13.5 billion after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down sweeping tariffs he had imposed.

Trump had introduced tariffs on most countries shortly after returning to the White House last year, a move that faced legal challenges from businesses and several U.S. states.

Hochul said the tariffs had added about $1,751 in extra costs over the past year for the average New York household and harmed small businesses.

“These irrational and illegal tariffs were nothing more than a tax on consumers, small businesses and farmers in New York, which is why I am demanding they be fully refunded,” she said in a statement.

The White House did not immediately comment on Hochul’s remarks.
