Mexico’s President Rejects Trump Proposal for US Military Operations on Mexican Soil

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum reiterated her rejection of a proposal by US President Donald Trump to carry out operations inside Mexican territory under the pretext of combating drug cartels.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Sheinbaum said Mexico is always willing to cooperate with the United States in fighting drug trafficking groups, but stressed that any operations within Mexican territory must remain under the control of Mexican authorities.

She noted that Trump recently reiterated his proposal to allow US soldiers to conduct operations against drug cartels inside Mexico.

“It’s good that he said in front of the media that we rejected the proposal, because that’s true. We said no, and we will continue to reject it with pride,” she said.

Earlier this month, during a speech at the “Shield of the Americas” summit on March 8 with Latin American leaders, Trump described Sheinbaum as “a very good person” but said she was unable to deal with drug cartels.

Sheinbaum has repeatedly rejected Trump’s offer to send US troops to Mexico to take part in the fight against drug cartels.
