North Korea’s state media reported that leader Kim Jong Un has been re-elected as President of State Affairs.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, the Supreme People’s Assembly re-elected Kim during its first session of the 15th term as part of implementing state policy.
The move follows the conclusion of the ruling Workers’ Party’s 9th Congress in February, which saw major changes in the party’s central leadership structure.
Analyst Hong Min of the Korea Institute for National Unification said the sweeping reshuffle suggests Kim is working to build his own elite circle and accelerate generational change within the country’s leadership.
