Oil Tanker Hit Off Dubai Coast, Fire Contained Amid Spill Concerns

An oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Dubai on Monday, March 30, 2026, sparking a fire onboard and causing structural damage, with no injuries reported.

The vessel, identified as Al Salmi,” was fully loaded and capable of carrying around 2 million barrels of crude oil.

According to the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the tanker was directly targeted while anchored near Dubai’s port, resulting in damage and a potential oil spill in surrounding waters.

Dubai authorities later confirmed that the fire was brought under control following what is believed to have been a drone attack, adding that no casualties were reported.

The incident is the latest in a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Gulf and Strait of Hormuz since the war began in late February, raising concerns over global energy security.

Oil prices briefly spiked following reports of the attack, reflecting heightened market sensitivity to disruptions in the region.
