Argentina Expels Senior Iranian Diplomat Amid Rising Tensions

Argentina’s Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday the expulsion of a senior Iranian diplomat, amid escalating tensions between Buenos Aires and Tehran.

Foreign Minister Pablo Kirno said in a post on X that Iran’s chargé d’affaires, Mohsen Soltani Tehrani, had left the country in compliance with a Thursday order giving him 48 hours to depart.

The move follows Argentina’s recent decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a “terrorist organization,” enabling authorities to impose financial sanctions on entities dealing with it and to seize any related assets within the country.

In response, Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the decision, describing Argentina’s actions as an “unforgivable insult” influenced by the United States.
