A large-scale security deployment took place early Sunday in Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone as authorities carried out raids and arrests targeting senior officials and political figures over alleged corruption and abuse of power.
A security source said the Counter Terrorism Service arrested several politicians and members of parliament under judicial warrants related to financial and administrative corruption cases.
The operation coincided with tightened security measures at entrances to the Green Zone, which houses foreign embassies, diplomatic missions, international organizations, government offices, and residences of senior officials.
Authorities said the measures were part of ongoing judicial efforts to pursue individuals suspected of corruption.
