Albania’s parliament witnessed heated exchanges and physical confrontations between lawmakers from rival political parties on Thursday, disrupting parliamentary proceedings in the capital, Tirana.

The disorder included objects being thrown inside the chamber, while opposition lawmakers blocked the parliamentary podium and repeatedly banged on desks as other legislators continued voting on proposed legislation.

The clashes coincided with the tenth consecutive day of student protests, with demonstrators and their supporters gathering outside parliament behind security barriers.

Several university professors also joined the demonstrations in solidarity with the students.

Opposition lawmakers displayed photographs of students who were reportedly injured during earlier protests, expressing support for the demonstrators and their demands.
