Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated that Iraq is working to persuade Iran-backed militias to lay down their weapons and join the official security forces.
In an interview with Reuters, Hussein explained that the government aims to convince factions that fought against U.S. forces and launched rockets at Israel to integrate into state institutions.
He also noted that political discussions in Iraq on this issue have made progress, emphasizing Baghdad’s desire to maintain good relations with Washington and mediate tensions between the U.S. and Iran if needed.
Regarding Syria, he added that Iraq is in contact with Damascus about the ISIS threat, reaffirming that Iraq’s security and stability remain the top priority.
