Tens of thousands of people in the Australian state of New South Wales were left without power today, Saturday: Strong winds and heavy rain have triggered flood warnings.
About 28,000 people were without power in Sydney, the state capital and Australia’s largest city, and 15,000 in the nearby city of Newcastle and the Hunter region, the electricity company (Ausgrid) said.
The state’s Emergency Management Authority said it had received 2,825 calls for help since Friday, mostly relating to fallen trees and wind-damaged properties.
