Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday received Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, commander-in-chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), in the presence of Egyptian General Intelligence chief Hassan Rashad. Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said that the meeting highlighted the depth of Egyptian-Libyan relations, with Sisi noting that Libya’s stability is an integral part of Egypt’s national security.
The official spokesperson added via the official Facebook page that President Sisi also expressed Egypt’s keenness to ensure the unity and cohesion of Libya’s national institutions, stressing the importance of coordination between all Libyan parties to develop an integrated political map leading to the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously, as well as the need to prevent foreign intervention and the removal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
