Greenland’s Prime Minister: The Island’s Fate is Decided Here, We Don’t Want to Be Americans

Greenland’s Prime Minister, Mute Egede, responded on Tuesday to U.S. President Donald Trump’s ambitions to buy Greenland, stating, “We are from Greenland, and we do not want to be Americans.” This came after Trump announced his plan to purchase the island, which is a self-governing Danish territory.
Egede emphasized in a press conference that the fate of Greenland is decided in Greenland, acknowledging the difficulty of the situation. Earlier, Trump had stated that the United States needs to control Greenland to ensure international security, sparking strong reactions in Denmark, which rejected selling its overseas territories.
In December, Trump had announced his intention to purchase Greenland, a proposal briefly suggested during his first term. In January, Trump also refused to rule out the possibility of invading Greenland, considering it crucial for U.S. national security.
