The Houthi group agreed on Wednesday to release 25 crew members of the “Galaxy Leader” ship after 14 months of captivity under the pretext of supporting Palestinians in Gaza.
This decision came after Omani efforts and communication with Hamas, although no release date or details of the arrangements were provided.
The Houthis had launched attacks against ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in November 2023, targeting vessels linked to Israel, which led to the piracy of the “Galaxy Leader” and the sinking of other ships, causing damage to dozens.
Following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, the group announced it would limit its attacks to Israeli-linked ships only.
